26 Regarding Mr. Canese’s political activities, the 1993 presidential elections, and the statements he made in the context of the electoral campaign 69(5) In 1991, Mr. Canese participated in the Asunción municipal elections for the popular party Asunción para Todos; he was the first candidate for councilor and was elected. The alleged victim exercised this office from 1991 to 1996.23 69(6) The popular party Asunción para Todos proposed Mr. Canese’s candidacy for the presidency of the Republic in the 1993 elections. Juan Carlos Wasmosy was the presidential candidate of the Colorado Party in these elections.
