The request for protection concerns members of the non-governmental organization Committee of Relatives of Victims of the Events of February and March 1989 (Comité de Familiares de las Víctimas de los Sucesos de Febrero y Marzo de 1989, COFAVIC) due to statements by senior public officials discrediting the organization’s human rights work, acts of criminalization within the context of the 21st anniversary of the Caracazo Case, and the publication of the Inter-American Commission’s report on "Democracy and Human Rights in Venezuela".
