The request for protection concerns the Miskitu indigenous people, located in the Nicaraguan Caribbean North Coast Region, who have faced a series of kidnappings, murders, sexual assaults, threats, house fires, robberies and ambushes by "settlers" because of claims to their ancestral territories.
