The request for provisional measures to protect the life and personal integrity of members of the Ibsen family and their representative is based on facts that concern harassment and threats, as well delays in the payment of damages. It also refers to the procedures used to identify remains exhumed in October 2012, per a judgment handed down to Bolivia on September 1, 2010 for the forced disappearance of Rainer Ibsen Cárdenas and José Luis Ibsen Pena.

The Inter-American Court rejected the request for provisional measures because it considered that the requirements of extreme gravity, urgency and irreparable damage were not met; the Inter-American Court issued its assessment within the context of monitoring the implementation of the sentence.
