The events of the case relate to the violation of the right to freedom of expression, as a consequence of a series of acts and omissions committed by State agents and individuals, against a group of social communicators and workers from the Globovision Television channel, between 2001 and 2005. This took place through means of obstruction and intimidation of those exercising their duties as journalists. The IA Court placed the events of the case in a context of strong bias and social and political conflict.

The IA Court considered that the statements of senior public officials and the omission by state authorities in their duty to act with due diligence during the investigations into acts of violence against the workers constituted as failure to comply with State duties in preventing and investigating the events. In addition, it analyzed the possible gender bias regarding the assaults suffered by women journalists.
