The facts of the case concern the forced disappearance of Víctor Manuel Isaza Uribe in November 1987, while he was detained in the prison of La Sierra in the municipality of Puerto Nare in the department (state) of Antioquia.

In its sentence, the IA Court applied standards on the forced disappearance of persons, addressing the specificity that results from the fact that the victim was deprived of his liberty and under State custody. Additionally, the Court examined the judicial investigations of the facts with regards to the State’s obligation of due diligence.
