REQUEST FOR EXPANSION OF PROVISIONAL MEASURES
IN FAVOR OF MARIANELA SÁNCHEZ ORTIZ AND FAMILY
WITH REGARD TO VENEZUELA
MATTERS OF CERTAIN VENEZUELAN PRISONS
HAVING SEEN:
1.
The Order of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (hereinafter, “the InterAmerican Court" or “the Court") of November 24, 2009, in the matters of Monagas
Judicial Confinement Center (“La Pica”); Yare I and Yare II Capital Region Penitentiary
Center (Yare Prison); Penitentiary Center of the Central Occidental Region (Uribana
Prison), and Capital El Rodeo I and El Rodeo II Judicial Confiement Center, in which it
was decided to “procedurally join the corresponding processing of such matters” and
decided, inter alia:
1.
To order the State to maintain and adopt the measures necessary to
continue protecting the life and personal integrity of the beneficiaries of the
following four penitentiary centers: Monagas Judicial Confinement Center (“La
Pica”); Yare I and Yare II Capital Region Penitentiary Center (Yare Prison);
Penitentiary Center of the Central Occidental Region (Uribana Prison) and El Rodeo
I and El rodeo II Capital Judicial Confinement Center.
2.
To require the State to adopt the necessary measures to protect the life
and personal integrity of Mr. Humberto Prado.

To reject the request for expansion made by the representatives of the
beneficiaries in relation to Mrs. Marianela Sánchez, María Inés García and Miriam
Bolívar and Mr. Carlos Alberto Nieto Palma, Emil Niño and Wilmer Linero, based on
the reasons mentioned in considering paragraphs 39 and 41 of the […] Order.
