State was internationally responsible for the punishment imposed.

In summary, the central conceptual element of the Inter-American Court’s case law is
reaffirmed by this Judgment in the perspective of protecting all rights simultaneously and in a
coordinated manner, in the understanding that each fundamental right should be exercised
respecting and safeguarding the other fundamental rights. In the processing and
harmonization of disputes between rights, the State and, in particular, the administration of
justice, play a central role, in weighing them up appropriately. Any disputes that arise can and
must be processed by law, and in cases such as this one, the extremes are freedom of
expression and the right to honor.
