The facts of the case concern the deprivation of liberty and the psychological, physical and sexual violence faced by Ms. López Soto and the impunity that persists in the case.

In its sentence, the IA Court analyzed the State’s responsibility in cases of violence against women for having breached its obligation to prevent violation of rights and for its relation to State tolerance in acts committed by individuals. The Court also typified the acts of violence as torture.

At the same time, it developed standards on sexual slavery, and access to justice in conditions of equality for women victims of violence.
