Fermín Ramírez
Provisional Measure- Summary
The request for protection measures concerns the life of Fermín Ramírez, given the imminent threat of executing a death sentence. The provisional measures were granted to ensure that the state does not violate a potential future decision by the inter-American system around the state’s responsibility to protect the right to life, per the American Convention.
In June 2005, the Inter-American Court ruled on the merits of the case of Fermin Ramirez by providing the following statement with regard to the provisional measures: " 14. The obligations of the State within the framework of the provisional measures ordered are replaced by those ordered in this Judgment, once the State ensures compliance of Operative Paragraphs 7, 8, and 9 of the present Judgment."
