colleagues from El Espectador received multiple threats, 87 which were reported to the National Police. 88 On May 7, 2000, when Ms. Bedoya made a visit to the La Modelo Prison in order to do more reporting into what happened the previous week, they told her that she had to leave the prison immediately or “they would kill her." 89 The next day, a newspaper messenger told her that he had a brother in that prison who warned her not to go back to prison "because they were going to kill her" 90 and that she had "two days to live." 91 56. A day later, several envelopes containing threats 92 and photocopies of some of the articles published on the aforementioned acts of violence that took place in the prison on April 27, 2000 appeared in the mailboxes of several journalists from the newspaper, including that of Ms. Bedoya 93. Following these incidents, the director of the newspaper and several journalists held a meeting with the Police. 94 Ms. Bedoya also participated in that meeting. 95 According to what they were able to ascertain through a newspaper messenger who had a brother being held in the paramilitary yard, the paramilitaries were "very upset" with the newspaper's articles and ordered them not stop publishing them. 96 In view of the foregoing, it was agreed to use that same messenger to respond to the paramilitaries and inform them that Ms. Bedoya was willing to dialogue with them and clarify any misunderstandings, all with the “acquiescence” of the Police, as indicated Mr. Cardona 97 and Ms. Bedoya herself. 98 87 Cf.
