Patrol [and] soldiers” were waiting for them, armed with “clubs, poles, ropes and machetes […].”87 They surrounded the inhabitants of Río Negro, took money […] from them, and then allowed them to do their shopping in the market.88 Towards midday, the Xococ patrollers formed the Río Negro villagers into lines and separated the men from the women and children.89 According to the testimony of Teodora Chen, a member of the Río Negro community who survive these events, the men were taken away “into a hollow” and, after hearing “an echoing sound,” she understood that they had been killed.90 73. Then, the Xococ patrollers assembled the remaining Río Negro villagers in front of a church, tied up some of them up and/or attacked them “with clubs [and] machetes.” They then shut them up in a building without water or food, and some of them remained there in these conditions for two days.91 74.
